Gymnasium Eckental is a co-educational, state funded grammar school (Gymnasium) with about
1,200 pupils between 11 and 18 years. At the age of 13, pupils either focus on natural sciences or
foreign languages.

In year 5 all pupils start learning English. Already in year 6 French or Latin are chosen as a second
foreign language.

In year 8 pupils have the choice between the branch of natural sciences (focus on chemistry and IT)
and foreign languages (Spanish as a third foreign language).

In the two-year Sixth Form pupils prepare to take A-Levels in 5 different subjects (maths, German, a
foreign language compulsory).
